Lithographie américaine originale publiée en 1865 dans l’ouvrage The Great Civil War: A History of the Late Rebellion du Dr Robert Tomes. Cette illustration historique représente la célèbre opération navale ayant mené à la capture de La Nouvelle-Orléans par les forces de l’Union lors de la Guerre de Sécession.
Intitulée « Capture of New Orleans – Fleet Passing Forts on the Mississippi », la scène illustre le passage de la flotte de l’amiral David Farragut devant les forts confédérés St. Philip et Jackson en avril 1862. Plusieurs navires engagés dans l’opération sont identifiés directement dans la composition, notamment le Hartford (navire amiral), le Brooklyn, le Pensacola, le Mississippi, le Varuna, ainsi que les bâtiments confédérés Manassas et Louisiana.
L’œuvre porte les mentions « C. Parsons del. » et « W. Brady lith. », correspondant respectivement au dessinateur et au lithographe. Produite immédiatement après la guerre, cette image constitue un témoignage contemporain d’un des événements navals les plus importants du conflit.

Original American Civil War Lithograph – Capture of New Orleans (1865)
Original American lithograph published in 1865 in The Great Civil War: A History of the Late Rebellion by Dr. Robert Tomes. This historic illustration depicts the famous naval operation that led to the capture of New Orleans by Union forces during the American Civil War.
Titled “Capture of New Orleans – Fleet Passing Forts on the Mississippi,” the scene portrays Admiral David Farragut’s fleet passing Confederate Forts St. Philip and Jackson during the April 1862 campaign. Several vessels involved in the operation are identified within the image, including the Hartford (flagship), Brooklyn, Pensacola, Mississippi, Varuna, as well as the Confederate vessels Manassas and Louisiana.
The print bears the credits “C. Parsons del.” and “W. Brady lith.”, identifying the original artist and lithographer. Produced immediately following the war, it serves as a contemporary visual record of one of the most significant naval actions of the conflict.
