Un remarquable grouping entièrement identifié ayant appartenu au Flight Lieutenant Gordon George Lommel (Service no. 209530) de la Royal Canadian Air Force.

Les recherches effectuées ont permis de retracer une grande partie de son parcours militaire et personnel. Gordon Lommel entre au service en 1939, participe à la Seconde Guerre mondiale au sein de la RCAF, puis réintègre l'Aviation royale canadienne en 1952 comme officier du Fighter Control. Sa carrière le mène notamment à Tyndall Air Force Base (Floride), Sea Island (Colombie-Britannique), Cold Lake (Alberta) et Beaverbank (Nouvelle-Écosse) avant sa retraite officielle en 1963, après plus de seize années de service.

Marié à Iris Lommel vers 1943, il appartient à cette génération que Tom Brokaw qualifiera plus tard de "The Greatest Generation". Après leur carrière militaire, Gordon et Iris s'installent à Richmond, en Colombie-Britannique, où ils poursuivent leur vie jusqu'à leur retraite. Gordon s'éteint le 14 février 2011, à l'âge de 90 ans.

An outstanding fully identified grouping belonging to Flight Lieutenant Gordon George Lommel (Service No. 209530) of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Research has made it possible to reconstruct much of his military and personal history. Gordon Lommel enlisted in 1939, served with the RCAF during the Second World War, and reenlisted in 1952 as a Fighter Control officer. His postings included Tyndall Air Force Base (Florida), Sea Island (British Columbia), Cold Lake (Alberta) and Beaverbank (Nova Scotia) before retiring in 1963 after more than sixteen years of military service.

Around 1943, he married Iris Lommel, remaining together for nearly sixty-eight years. He belonged to the generation later described by Tom Brokaw as "The Greatest Generation." Following military service, Gordon and Iris settled in Richmond, British Columbia, where they spent the remainder of their careers and retirement. Gordon passed away on February 14, 2011, at the age of 90.
